AGADIR CITY
Agadir (meaning "fortified collective attic" in Berber) is a city in southwestern Morocco, located on the Atlantic coast 508 km south of Casablanca, 173 km from Essaouira, and 235 km west of Marrakech. Agadir is capital of the Sous-Massa-Drâa administrative region and headquarters of the Agadir Prefecture Ida-Outanane.
Agadir is one of the main urban centers of Morocco, the sixth largest city in the country after Casablanca, Rabat, Fez, Marrakech and Tangiers. Three languages ​​are practiced in the city: Arabic, Berber and French. Ravaged by an earthquake in 1960, the city was completely rebuilt, Agadir is today one of the largest seaside resorts in Morocco where tourists come in large numbers, attracted by an exceptionally mild climate throughout the year.

History of the city of Agadir:

Formerly called Santa Cruz de Cap de Guè which was a Portuguese fort, the city took the name of Agadir in 1541 when the Saadian Sultan Mohamed Echeikh conquered it. The only traces that remain of the old city are the Kasbah on the top of the hill of Cap de Ghir, called Agadir N'Oufella.
The year 1760 marks the beginning of a period of dormant survival, caused by the closure of the port supplanted by that of Essaouira. During the 1930s, Agadir became an important stopover for the "Aéropostale" crossing the Atlantic. In 1960 an earthquake destroyed the city almost entirely. It was rebuilt 3km further south and since then Agadir became a very important tourist center.
Geography & Climate of Agadir
Agadir annual precipitation is 250 mm. The rainy period lasts a few months, from November to March. The sunshine is more than 300 days a year, the maxima are of 27 ° in August and 20 ° in January and the minima of 18 ° in August and 7 ° in January.

Monuments & Tourist Attractions in the city of Agadir

- The Kasbah Agadir N'Ouffela, nestled at some 230 meters above sea level, overlooking the bay of Agadir, the kasbah offers a breathtaking view of the city and its bay, it was built by Sultan Mohamed Echeikh to serve as a base of attack against the Portuguese counters. it is one of the rare monuments of the city and is the most visited by foreign tourists visiting or staying in Agadir.

The main cultural event of the city of Agadir is "the festival of Timitar, festival of Amazigh music and music of the world", it is held in Agadir every summer, since its creation in July 2004.
Since 2006, and at the end of the year, the concert of tolerance is organized in Agadir with the presence of international and national artists, organized by the Association of the concert of the tolerance and the media partners and the national tourist promoters and International.
